Konstantinos Koutroumbas

Konstantinos Koutroumbas received the diploma degree in Computer Engineering & Informatics Department of the University of Patras, Greece (1989), the M.Sc. in Advanced Methods in Computer Science from the Queen Mary and Westfield College of the University of London, U.K. (1990) and the PhD in Informatics (neural networks area) from the Department of Informatics of the University of Athens (1995). From 1996 to 1997, he was served as a Lecturer in the Department of Informatics of the University of Ioannina, while from 1997 to 2001 he was served as a specialized computer engineer at the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE). In 2001 joined the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), where since 2011 he is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications and Remote Sensing (IAASARS).
His research interests are in the general areas of pattern recognition, data clustering, neural networks, remote sensing applications using pattern recognition techniques (with emphasis in the hyperspectral image processing), Bayesian compressive sensing, ionospheric data analysis using time series techniques, signal processing with pattern recognition techniques, artificial intelligence. He co-authored two books published by Academic Press under the titles “Pattern Recognition” (four editions – translated in Greek and Chinese) and “Introduction to Pattern Recognition: A Matlab approach” (translated in Greek and Korean). He is co-author of more than 50 publications, 20 of them published in peer-reviewed journals (4 of them being single authored) and more than 30 of them in refereed international conferences. He has participated as co-PI or research coordinator in 5 European Commission and national projects. He has served as a technical committee member in more than 15 international conferences.
