Evangelos Gerasopoulos

Dr. Evangelos Gerasopoulos (EG) was born in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1974. He received his B.Sc. in Physics, M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1996, 1998 and 2003, respectively. Worked as Post Doctoral fellow at Max Planck Institute (Biogeochemistry Dept., Mainz-Germany) during the period 2001-2002 in the field of Aerosol Science, and then moved to the Environmental Chemical Processes Lab of the University of Crete (2004-2006) conducting research on the variability of aerosols and trace gases at remote environments. Employed at the National Observatory of Athens (ΝΟΑ) in 2006 as Senior Researcher at the Institute for Environmental Research and Sustainable Development (IERSD). Since 2011 EG is a Research Director. His main scientific interests include air quality, physical, optical and chemical properties of aerosols with expertise in in-situ and remote sensing techniques and methodologies.
EG is Head and Quality Manager of the Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory of NOA, Director of the Greek GEO Office (Group on Earth Observations), Member of the Sectorial Scientific Council for the Environment of the National Council for Research and Technology, Member of the Steering Committee of the Navarino Environmental Observatory. He has participated in more than 30 EU and national research projects in 7 of which as coordinator or principal investigator for IERSD/NOA. EG has been actively involved as member of the Organizing or Scientific Committees of 6 International Conferences. He has about 65 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals (and >110 in conference proceedings ) and his work has received more than 1600 citations from third-party (h-index = 25). EG has supervised or been a member of the supervising committee of 4 PhD and 4 MSc students. He is among others member of the editorial board of EGU’s Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics Journal (Copernicus Publications, Impact Factor: 5.6) and has been an active reviewer in 15 scientific journals.
